My Skin

My skin could speak all languages. It can identify with the pain of pimples.

” what the hell are you applying on your face?, try this product, and I think that one is too harsh, wash it with cold water, go visit this dermatologist and take this medication, get eight hours of sleep.”

I could go on and on about how I was advised, it almost burnt down my eardrums.

There are days when I awoke and looked at myself in the mirror, then closed my eyes thinking it would be a magic wand moment. Then there were days when I told myself that I was beautiful and I looked at myself from the neck downwards, intentionally slidding the mirror lower or standing far away so that I could only see the good parts.

Honestly sometimes I wished my thighs would be swapped with my face, especially on days when it turned rough and flaky….I just didn’t know what to do.

The natural remedies were a relief. I had turmeric, cucumber and lemon rubs daily, with warm water by my side. On those days, I went to bed sometimes facing the rooftop hoping the angle might be the problem. That run me through two years. I did the clean diet along with it, nothing spiced or fried, but the pimples still chose me…..aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhh…..I gave it all a break.

In came the facials then….I was a rockstar and the comments seized. I needed compliments and I seemed to be the only one noticing the smoothness and clarity of my skin. Then mama got worried….” don’t do too many.” I understood her worry but I was loving the new found me…I could strot around, attend family gatherings with no worries, not choose photography angles….I could literally do the salsa and spin on the dance floor. My confidence was top notch!

I vividly remember Steve’s look when he met me. He just put me under a microscope and said my acne was deep rooted. We need to do a facial immediately he said…” how long will i need to clear up.” Six months he said.

My heart was both elated and crushed. Those six months had episodes of reaction to the facials. It was total extreme dryness, then pealing. I would splash fresh water on my face regularly.

It has been a journey!!!
