Today i sat outside my apartment in the evening. I noticed a familiar face, and this person said hello….. i said hello back and noticed i have seen this face about three times. We exchanged pleasantries….this is my neighbour, the one i never noticed before.
You know greeting is basic, really nothing extra in there but it’s a rare act from a stranger these days. It is a sign of etiquette says my mama. In this “mind your own business world”, it’s comforting to see a stranger reach out.
On Saturday i discovered the beauty of the top view on our apartment block. I hadn’t even noticed the cool breeze there…..
Then my little friend came by, and now that she speaks clearly i greeted her by name and she looked at me and said her name was Bunny not Vanessa. We have bonded and learnt how to listen to each other too.
I can now make spaghetti Bolognese in no time and posho is my fort too. Cassava crisps are not that tedious either. I am enjoying what it means to get home before sunset and leave after the crack of dawn….i listen to the morning news and i have discovered new channels. I picked up a couple of books and have learnt about many amazing things. My investigative buds have been awakened. My French is getting better by the day and i am picking up Swahilli from the news….
Thursdays are extreme workout days, we sweat it all out and then have small talk afterwards….
It is not such a bad thing after all. This season and pandemic has reminded me of the importance of the “Little Things.”
