What is in your Bank account?

I just got off the phone with my uncle and this is how it went;

Uncle ESL:          Hello my child, Good morning to you. How are you doing?

Me:                       Good morning Uncle

Uncle ESL:          How are you? Mom and the rest?

Me:                       I am well Uncle. They all are too

Uncle ESL:          Do you have any challenges?

Me:                       Not at the moment uncle, thank you for asking

                             How are my cousins?

Uncle ESL:          They are all well. My child, if you ever feel alone, come over here for lunch on Sunday. We are always here. Infact, you can even come now. I am retired and home all the time.

Me:                       Thank you, Uncle, I really appreciate that.

Uncle ESL:          Forgive me for disturbing you at this moment, but my electricity just went off and you are my only contact.

Me:                       Uncle please do not say that. I am glad to be of help to you at any one time, let me make a call and get back to you.

Me:                       (Calling back ten minutes later)

                             Uncle, they was a technical fault, but it will be restored in about an hour.

Uncle ESL:          Thank you, my child. Now I have to take a cold bath (he laughs). I do not take cold baths. Well, I did so earlier this year when it was extremely hot. My inverter is not connected to my water heater.

Me:                       (Laughing) Sorry Uncle, but please hold on for a little while then you can have your warm bath.

Uncle ESL:          (Laughing even harder) Okay, let me wait a bit. I will call you in an hour’s time.

Me:                       Okay, I will be waiting

Fast forward to a conversation with my mother. Here goes;

Mom:                   Susan, I hope you opened up that account.

Me:                       Not yet mom

Mom:                   You need to work on it. You know it is an account for your life.

Me:                       Mom, I really do not like operating multiple bank accounts. I think I will hold up on that.

Mom:                   Let me tell you about this account. It is a must have. Once you open it up, you can deposit on it three times a day, and there is not limit or charges . You are in full control of your account. It will come through for you in the lowest of moments.

What my mom was referring to was a bank account with God. You see my mother, a devout and committed Roman Catholic attends daily masses about three times a day. She honors the holy hour and says the divine mercy prayer at 3pm and the holy rosary multiple times a day. She always reminds us that she transacts in heaven and when she is too weak to pray or whenever she just cannot, she asks God to withdraw one from her bank account.

So when my uncle called me. I had been waiting for a moment to return the favor to him for filling my bank account. The honorable gentleman that I call my uncle has had my back through thick and thin. In the times when I was fighting for my late father’s estate. He has been present physically, spiritually and emotionally throughout every stage. He has followed through with calls, read through lengthy documents, before, during and after. We have prayed on phone and in person. He has opened up the doors to his house to me, prayed for me, listened to me, made calls for me. He is a Godsend.  He has watched me cry and encouraged me through it all. Sometimes I felt like I was taking too much from him.

So when he called me today. I felt not only obligated, but glad  that I could withdraw from my professional bank account for him.

As we navigate through different moments and stages of life, think about whether the people in your life would reduce their savings and  withdraw from their time account, food account, emotional account. Better still when the time comes, their financial account…. Is there anybody who prays for you, cries with you…..

Take a moment and reflect!
